New recs are at the bottom of each series.

Some of these are R/NC-17 by the way. If it is labeled as such, that means there's sex! So read at your own discretion.

Miscellaneous Recs

Final Fantasy VII | Final Fantasy VIII | Final Fantasy X | Final Fantasy X-2 | Kingdom Hearts

Final Fantasy VII
Chi to Ase to Namida
by Akuma no Tsubasa
Sephiroth/Zack, Sephiroth/Cloud, Sephiroth/Zack/Cloud

A sort of AU FFVII fic that starts from the beginning. Cloud isn't the bumbling teenager who failed the SOLDIER exam because he was inept. His ties go way deeper than that. In which Hojo knew his father and prevented him from passing. Some of it you have to wonder 'what the hell was the author thinking?' because she seems to make huge leaps rather than small jumps but whatever. Overall, it's pretty good although I wouldn't rank it up there with say, the one below by Talya Firedancer.

Burn Like the Sun
by Talya Firedancer
Zack/Cloud, NC-17

One of my favorite FFVII fics. I looked back in the previous recs and was a bit surprised I hadn't rec'ed this earlier. XD;; There are like huge spoilers for Cloud's background and parts of the game up till the end. Don't say I didn't warn you. Cloud, having failed the strenuous physical and mental exams for SOLDIER, remains stubbornly in Shinra. Being a small 15 year old, he's at the bottom of the chain of command and ridiculed for his size. Inured to the idea of being shunned, he is blind-sided when a high ranking SOLDIER befriends him, seemingly with no ill-will attached.

Final Fantasy VIII
Another Side, Another Story
by Tripsoverhercats
Irvine/Squall, NC-17

Irvine and Squall's roles are switched. Irvine is the gunblade wielder and Squall, the sniper. Not the very best writing I've seen but it's good for some lighthearted reading.

Liontaming
by Paxnirvana
Irvine/Selphie/Squall, explicit THREESOME

Reason why I read this at all was because I liked Paxnirvana's Naruto fics. Very glad I didn't skip over it for something else. Irvine and Selphie are already an established couple. What started off as a fantasy turns very, very serious when they realize how much human contact Squall needs but stubbornly refuses.

The Magic Series
by scribblemoose
Irvine/Squall, NC-17

I liked scribblemoose's Weiß Kreuz fics and when I saw the author also wrote Irvine/Squall, I jumped on it. I'm not the sort to write long paragraphs extolling the virtues of stories I like so I'll leave you with the summary and let you decide for yourself. The emergence of an unwilling new sorceress shakes the tenuous relationship between Squall and Irvine.

site: Title Pending
by Sukunami
various Seifer/Squall fics

I discovered this site not long ago while looking for Irvine/Squall fics, which I didn't find much of. I was bored, so I began reading some of Sukunami's FF8 stories and I don't think I stopped reading till I read all of the completed ones. XD;; Because I would rather just rec the author rather than all the individual fics [only because I would rather not repeat the same author more than 3 times], the link takes you to her website. There's just something about her writing that makes you want to continue reading until there's none left and then re-read the ones that you've already went through. Her characterization isn't always canon but is always believable.

Final Fantasy X
O For a Voice Like Thunder
by Tenshi no Korin
Luzzu/Gatta

If you haven't played the game before, don't read. It screams spoilers and there's angst! If you've played the game, you'll know that it's not possible not to have angst with this pairing. This is written in Gatta's POV and about his reason for joining the Crusaders as well as his feelings for his captain.

Raimei no Uta
by Miriya Valentine
Jecht/Auron, NC-17

I love the imagery in this fic despite the shortness of this. A glimpse at the relationship of a younger and less cynical Auron with Jecht and their summoner.

Dream Lover
by Becca Abbott
Jecht/Auron, NC-17

Another of the bizarre pairing. It's short so there's not much room for character development but it's long enough to see that she keeps true to the characters. *shrugs* Unless you're horribly against the pairing but that's not my fault so whatever. Braska and his Guardians make a brief stop in Besaid before continuing on their pilgrimage.

Saidan no Hitsuji
by Seishuku Skuld
Jecht/Auron

For some bizarre reason, I like this pairing. I mean, there's more justification for Braska/Auron than this pairing. Then again, one could hear the soft tone he used when speaking to Jecht, even though he was Sin. But whatever. This works in a weird way. It's written in Auron's POV and goes from Braska's pilgrimage to the end of the game.

Final Fantasy X-2
Whisper Composition
by Gysecune
Gippal/Baralai, light NC-17

I have no idea how this made it under the ff.net radar. =_=;; Then again, FFX-2 isn't a really big fandom for s-ai and such so I guess it makes sense. As you can see, this fic is actually on ff.net despite having a few explicit scenes. Here's hoping it doesn't get taken down because the author is taking a huge risk in leaving it up. -_-;; But no matter. This is a bit of a weird pairing and I don't even know why I read it. Parts of it I don't quite agree with, such as the abuse of Baralai under Seymour's hands but it's an overall good fic. Those parts are tolerable. This is basically a series about Baralai and Gippal and the memories between the time they met till beyond the end of the game.

Kingdom Hearts
Synonymy
by Ruaki
Riku/Sora, I think.

I love this fic! Unfortunately, it hasn't been updated in for quite a while. Ruaki's more of an artist than a writer but this certainly proves that artists can also write well as well as draw well! You can check out her art here. Riku wakes up to find himself back at the beginning, in which he is the keyblade master rather than Sora except he remembers all that happened to him the first time around when he embraced the darkness.

Strawberry Bubbles
by FrozenLioness
Riku/Sora

Another cute fic. I don't really agree with some of the characterization and sometimes I think the author forgets the age of the characters because unless Riku was a child genius...uh yea. Kairi and Selphie experiments with a potion and uses Riku as a guinea pig. The results are disastrous. Riku turns into a little boy. Thankfully, Sora's parents are away on vacation. Now, all they have to do is figure out how to reverse the results and survive until then.
